Winfried Wolk belongs to the first generation of students of the School of Leipzig. His teachers were the professors Bernhard Heisig, Wolfgang Mattheuer and Werner Tübke, with whom he studied graphics and painting at the Leipzig High School of Graphics and the Art of the Book. Wolk became well known in Germany and abroad through many exhibitions and his work was honored with a number of awards.

Always keen on technical experiments, Wolk is not only brilliant as a draftsman and a painter but is also a master of such different graphic techniques as etching, lithography and silk-screen printing. He has designed and illustrated books, and has also created large-format stained glass compositions and numerous ceramic reliefs for public buildings.

Winfried Wolk has been creatively engaged with digital media since 1992. With his display-paintings, he has succeeded in combining traditional paintingís surface juxtaposition of the elements of a picture with the possibility of time sequence offered by todayís media art.
